The peninsula on which Poreč’s historic Old Town grew has been inhabited for thousands of years. The historic Old Town of Poreč, once surrounded by walls and towers, is nowadays considered a cultural monument with many unique historical remnants.

When strolling through the city seek out the North Tower near the Peškera cove. Continue to the south toward the Pentagon tower at the beginning of Decumanus Street, and then seek out the Round Tower overlooking the waterfront. You can visit the episcopal complex of the Euphrasian basilica, the House of Two Saints and the Romanesque House, situated within the town walls. You can also seek out ruins that bear evidence of the ancient Roman culture in the vicinity of Marafor, the oldest square in Poreč.

Poreč boasts the Temple of Mars, which was at the time the biggest Roman sanctuary in Istria. Just a few meters north the remains of the Neptune’s Temple are located. On your way back, you will notice Gothic palaces Zuccati, Manzini and Leone built at the intersection of Decumanus and Cardo Streets. Baroque palaces Sinčić, Polesini and Vergottini are also situated in Poreč’s historic Old Town. At the exit of the historic Old Town you do not miss to visit the City Council palace, a magnificent example of Neo-Gothic architecture.

We serve food that is healthy, tasty and organic. All our pastas are homemade, our fish is supplied directly from the fishing boats every morning, seasonal fruits and vegetables are acquired from local farmers on a daily basis.

Hotel Mauro is located in Poreč’s historic Old Town, right on the waterfront, 30 meters from the famous Euphrasian Basilica and 10 meters from the sea.
